My research focuses on modeling and experiments of wave motion in complex material systems. The objective is to understand the intimate link between the morphological characteristics of propagating wavefields and the internal features of the materials that cause them. This investigation aims at laying the foundations for the development of smart actuators and sensors with directional sensing, wave steering and subwavelength waveguiding capabilities, with applications in many areas of engineering, ranging from materials diagnostics to seismic imaging and metamateral shield design. I am also interested in the development of data-driven techniques for acoustic imaging and non-destructive evaluations of materials, obtained from the fusion of classical wave mechanics with signal/image processing and machine learning methods.
