The Swisher Group is a multidisciplinary team of researchers focusing on the materials, devices, and fabrication processes that will enable flexible electronic systems. Building flexible sensors and circuits on plastic substrates enables low-cost, large-area systems that can roll and bend, which means they can interface with the body more comfortably and efficiently. In addition, flexible electronics that bend instead of crack can actually be more robust that rigid, planar materials, making them well-suited to harsh and demanding sensing environments. Our research sits at the intersection of semiconductor device physics, materials science, and bioengineering.
