The Garwood lab is focused on developing new image acquisition and reconstruction techniques in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Our main objective is to enhance the utility and accessibility of MRI for research applications and medical diagnosis. Currently, we are developing a first-of- its-kind MRI system that will open new frontiers for human brain research, particularly in terms of better understanding human behavior and motor coordination. Much of technology that makes this MRI scanner possible is based on frequency-modulated (FM) pulses and spatiotemporal encoding techniques developed mainly in the Garwood lab over the past three decades.
